Gauges and more

I won't whine about work.. It is just straight out busy.

I priced myself the other day a set of electronic send SPECO gauges for.. my un-named car. Under $200 for 3 in 1 5/8" from memory. All electronic send too. I refuse to have another incident like the Gizza. It is not going to happen.

No.. I will not be mounting them on the A-Pillar or on the bonnet. That sorta rice factor does not impress and well is toally ricey. I'm going to use the wallet holder space under the radio/cassette player. Which means come resale time I can either leave or remove and bring it back to stock.

I thought I read somewhere that bonnet mounting is no longer legal. Anyway your proposed method sounds much more sensible.

I'd believe it was illegal if I didn't see them everyday. By all accounts they should be.

I do know however that you can not install aftermarket mechanical gauges into the cabin. As you are not allowed to run pressurised lines into the cabin that are not factory.

hmmm..I did that in about 1971 and 1973 with my first two Triumphs which, despite their otherwise impecable sporting pretensions, didn't have oil pressure gauges so I had to instal one, and we didn't have them new-fangled electronic ones back in tha day.

Bonnet mounting is illegal unless there's a sheild made of the same guage steel as the bonnet over them. It's just that cops don't know shit about what's legal and what's not...

Besides, dave need the a-pillar space for his 7" tacho with shift light, right?

he needs his a-pillar space for a giant sign that says "you have already blown up two motors through lack of oil, you should ensure you have plenty of oil in your motor at all times."

I'd like to see that.

100% disagree.

wtf is the point? why not use a threshold cutoff switch instead, since the only right thing to do in such circumstances is to stop the engine...

after all care you are supposed to be looking out the windscreen, not halfway down the heater control panel at some gauges.

as much as I hate to admit it the A-pillar mounts do seem more sensible, if you really must have gauges, as unlike a threshold cutoff you actually have to pay attention to them for them to be of any use

Nevertheless, they're still against the law and any cop who doesn't like you and knows what he's on about can and will canary you for it.
